What is a Packraft?
We’re glad you asked! Packrafts are small, lightweight personal rafts that you can pack with you into the back country where you can explore remote stretches of water. Gear can be stored inside the tubes for convenience. Packrafts are great for small mountain lakes but can also handle whitewater with more stability than a kayak.

A standardized classification system is used to rate the difficulty of waters:
- Class I represents easy, straightforward waters with minimal obstacles (flat water). Beginner level
- Class II has moderate rapids and some maneuvering around rocks. Beginner level
- Class III features more significant rapids that require precise paddling and quick decision-making. Intermediate level
- Class IV includes intense, turbulent rapids that demand advanced skills and experience. Advanced level
- Class V presents extreme conditions with highly technical maneuvers necessary for safety. Highly Advanced level
- Class VI is reserved for expert-only runs due to extreme hazards and risks.
Understanding these classifications helps rafters choose appropriate rivers that match their skill levels and ensures a safe and enjoyable rafting experience.
